How do I know if someone opened my email in Gmail?
Install Mail Tracker, a free email tracker for Gmail, and send as usual. Every tracked email shows a grey check once it’s sent and a blue double check the moment it’s opened, and a notification tells you when it happens.
Does Gmail have read receipts?
Only for Google Workspace work and school accounts, and only when an administrator turns them on; the administrator can also make recipients approve each read receipt. Personal @gmail.com accounts can’t request them. Mail Tracker adds read receipts to any Gmail account, without asking the recipient for anything.

How does email tracking work?
Mail Tracker adds a tiny invisible image, a tracking pixel, to the emails you send. When your recipient opens the email the image loads, and you see it as an open. Links are tracked the same way, through a short redirect that records the click. If the recipient’s email app blocks images or shows plain text only, the pixel never loads and that open can’t be detected.
Where does Mail Tracker work?
Mail Tracker works in Gmail in Google Chrome on your computer, with any Gmail account. Your recipients can read your email in any app, such as Gmail, Outlook or Apple Mail: the open is detected whenever their app loads images.
Does the recipient know I’m tracking my email?
The tracking pixel is invisible, so your email looks completely normal. Free-plan emails include a small “Sent with Mail Tracker” signature, which you can remove per email or by upgrading.
Why do some email trackers show false opens?
Gmail, Apple Mail and corporate scanners automatically load images before a human reads the email. Mail Tracker classifies these events and only counts genuine opens, so you don’t get phantom reads.
Will my own opens be counted?
No. A browser-level rule blocks your own tracking pixel, so viewing your Sent mail never registers as an open. (This means testing with a second account in the same browser will show “not opened,” which is expected.)
What data do you store?
We store your subject lines, recipients, and open and click events (with an anonymized IP address, the device type and approximate location) to power your reports. We never store the body of your emails or a full IP address. The privacy policy lists everything we store.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Premium is self-serve through the Stripe customer portal. Cancel in a couple of clicks, with no emails and no retention hoops.
